Announcing - JayWalk Update: Helping Activist Organizers Reach More People

JayWalk has rolled out its biggest update yet. The app now gives organizers more ways to reach people, share events, without depending on social media algorithms to spread the word. New features make it easier to follow organizers and causes, receive notifications about upcoming actions, and find resources. The update also introduces new safety tools, including access codes for sensitive events, a trust system, and a live safety map.

JayWalk was made from the start to help activists connect and stay safe. When it launched a year ago, it began with the basics: a place to find and post actions by cause without depending on social media algorithms to spread the word. Those first features were a stepping stone. More than 25,000 people have used JayWalk to find and join actions since launch, and now the app is building on that foundation with more tools to help organisers reach people and bring communities together.

Helping Organizers Reach More People

People can now follow specific organizers, causes, and locations, and get notified when something new is posted or when an action changes at the last minute. Organizers can post an event once on JayWalk and cross-share it straight to social media platforms, so reaching everyone is less work.

And unlike social media, where algorithms can limit the visibility of posts, JayWalk gives organizers a dedicated place to share their events with people looking for ways to get involved.

The more organizers who join and add their events, the easier it becomes for people to find actions, connect with one another, and build a less fragmented movement.

New Ways to Organise and Get Involved

JayWalk is for more tust street protests. Organizers can also post fundraisers, film screenings, online events, and other activities that bring people together around a cause.

Each cause has a resource page with guides, reading, and vetted places to donate and volunteer. The app now works in additional languages and adapts to the country you are in.

Access Codes for Sensitive Actions

In some cases organizers want to keep their actions within a trusted circle. In these cases organizers can now protect an event with an access code, so only the people they share it with can see the details.

Knowing Who to Trust

With more people adding events and reporting from the ground, it helps to know who you can actually rely on. The new trust system surfaces organisers and contributors with a track record of showing up and reporting accurately, so they are easy to recognise. That keeps the information on JayWalk reliable, especially in a tense situation where a wrong report can put people at risk.

Looking Out for Each Other on the Ground

Alongside these features, JayWalk is also introducing a live safety map to help activists stay safe during actions.

During an action, verified organizers can mark what is happening in real time, so everyone taking part can see it on their phone. That covers where police are acting aggressively, where violent counter-protesters have turned up, and other unsafe situations as they unfold, along with where to find safe zones, medics, and legal support.

There is also a space for mutual aid, where people can find or offer local support like food and supplies, separate from protests.

The live safety map is being introduced as a soft launch, giving organisers a chance to try the feature and provide feedback as it continues to develop. While the map is designed to support people on the ground, JayWalk’s tools are available to organizers planning all kinds of events, whether online or in person.

Get on JayWalk

JayWalk is free, and it was built for all kinds of activists. If you organize actions, you can register and start posting them today, whether you’re planning a protest, fundraiser, film screening, or online event.

Adding your events helps more people discover your work and find ways to participate. And the more organizers who join, the more complete the map becomes, helping people find actions and resources while bringing movements closer together.

If you want to show up for the causes you care about, download the app, follow the organizations you care about, and look out for the people around you.
